Why Do You Spell Out God's Name G-d?

Just say I Am that I Am

Our Father In Heaven

Why DoYou Spell Out God’s Name G-d?

     Treating G-d's name with reverence is a way to give respect to G-d. So even though on a computer the name is not really being erased (and perhaps is not really there in the first place), and "G-d" is only an English term used to translate G-d's holy name, it is in keeping with this respect that I write "G-d" in my on-line articles which reflect the living G-d of Israel whose son is Yeshua, Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

This causes problems as a writer.  No matter how many times I type "G-d", the spell-check on the computer has no idea what I mean. "G-d" is not in its dictionary, and it won't accept it as an addition to the dictionary. So the computer comes up with all types of suggested corrections: Go, Do, G'day. And often half the name ends up on a new line: G-
d. Yet in proper biblical Writings it is written, G-d as I write a lot of proper biblical articles.

I guess I shouldn't expect any better from a computer though.  No matter how smart a computer is, certain things are beyond it. How would you program a computer to have respect for G-d's name? It is unreasonable to ask a computer to relate to G-d, because G-d is not a logical concept -- He created intellect, and He cannot be captured by  mans creation or imagination of Him. A computer is limited to logic, so it can't handle spiritual concepts. Just as a metal-detector will beep when a gun is passed through it, but it cannot pick up a person's thoughts or intentions, intellect can grasp logic and rationale, but it cannot detect the Divine.

But a human is not a computer. Intellect is not where we begin and end. We have a soul that is beyond intellect, and our soul detects G-d because our soul sees G-d. Knowing G-d is about getting in touch with the soul that knows G-d already, without needing any proof. This is not negating intellect -- it is transcending it.
How do you get in touch with your soul? Ask G-d. He'll tell you.

People think that it is a Jewish thing, but Jews don't use the name G-d. They abbreviate with YHVH or YAWH, they refer to him as Hashem. You see more Messianics and Christians using the Lord's name in writing as G-d. God is the English version to refer to our Heavenly Father. Jesus called him Father. Although I'm not sure how any name for G-d came about because when he appeared to Moses in the burning bush, and Moses asked him his name he said, "Just say, I am that I am."

G-d is holy and the reason I spell it G-d is out of respect for his holiness.You see a lot of people have lost their fear of G-d. But Jesus tells us to work out our salvation through fear and trembling.

Some say Yehovah for His name. I also know people who just write god. Now that, I could not do, but you have to look at who is writing it and what their intent is. Some people who cannot spell or give thought to proper writing may write many proper names in lower caps. So, always look at the intent of the person, and not judge what their love is for G-d by a grammatical way of writing his name, because even though it may be incorrect grammatically it may not reflect  their love and respect for the Lord at all. The love of G-d is reflected in our hearts. I just happen to like revealing my love and heart for my Father in writing his name with great honor.

Here is an example writing of an Orthodox Jew explaining what their interests are. You will see here that they don't even say the name G-d at all but Hashem and abbreviated Yaweh and Yahusha.

My interests are Ha-shem, Tetragrama YHVH, Cooking Levitical Diet, Finding lost Tribes/lost Jews, Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction, Food storage,  Shabbat, YHWH, Wind Chimes, Camping, Twelve Tribes, Ancient Hebrew alphabet, Yahusha, Mount Sinaiand.

No-one knows exactly how to pronounce YHVH (yod he vau he in hebrew letters) - yaweh and jehovah are just guesses by Christians (yaweh being a much better guess btw).

The Samaritan woman at the well begins to tell Jesus about the God of the mountain they worship. Jesus told her, "You worship a God you do not know. We worship what we know."

I don't think you can be too reverent toward G-d, but I do think He is more concerned about how we treat His people and each other. He deems that our real attitude towards Him and what our heart reveals.

“ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.
Cease to do evil,
Learn to do good;
Seek justice,
Rebuke the oppressor;
Defend the fatherless,
Plead for the widow.
“ Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the LORD,

“ Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.
If you are willing and obedient,
You shall eat the good of the land;
But if you refuse and rebel,
You shall be devoured by the sword”;
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.' "

Isaiah 1:16-20
